Larry Melville and his sons Paul, Todd and Jason are regarded as groundbreakers in Canadian drag racing. The Ontario-based family-orientated team were the first (and presently the only) Canadians to try running within IHRAs fledging new Top Stock category.
The team has since 2002 campaigned a 1971 Boss Mustang which is powered by a 514 CID Jon Kaase motor that produces an estimated 600+ HP. The car, which was originally an A/Stock record-holding car from Florida is equipped with a full interior. Melville Racing built the car specifically for the Top Stock class and finished, it tips the scales at 3790 lbs. Important components include a JPT C4 Automatic Transmission, Ford 9 rear end assembly, Strange axles and Hoosier tires mounted on Weld Racing Wheels. The classic Mustang also features a Cal Tracs suspension system and Holley carburetion.
Sponsorship for Canadas only Top Stocker comes from Jon Kaase Engines, Better Mustangs (Bayfield, ON) and Amsoil Racing (1-888-767-5823).
The team participated at most IHRA national events in Top Stock eliminator during the 2003-racing season and is primed for a full compliment of IHRA races again in 2004.
Strong Ford-brand proponents, the team also runs a second meticulous 1971 Ford Mustang, which has been raced since 1989. That machine, which is powered by a 800 HP 580 CID motor is run mostly in local Super Pro ET Brackets as well as Ford-orientated special events.
Larry and Todd Melville own and operate a highly successful heating and air conditioning business (Melville Heating Ltd) located in Stratford, ON.
