After racing blown Hydroplane boats very successfully during the 1990's Quebec's Dan Mercier entered the very fast ranks of NHRA's Top Alcohol Dragster class during the 2003 season. Mercier was impressive in his first car, running a 5.61 secs at 250.00 mph in a machine, which was acquired from Arizona, however, that marked only the beginning.

During September of 2003 Mercier purchased the ex-Short-Line Express dragster from Nevada's Duane Shields. The car is the very same machine, which Shields had a second place finish in final NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Championship points in 2002. In his first race with the new car, Mercier recorded career best times and speeds while racing during NHRA’s Lucas Oil Nationals in Reading, PA. In fact Mercier was credited with a top end charge of 262.85 mph -- making him Canada's fastest ever Top Alcohol Dragster driver.

The car features state-of-the-art equipment throughout including a 2003 Brad Hadman Chassis, 451 cu in BAE engine, PSI superchargers, Ignition system by MSD Pro-Mag, Browell + Trick Titanium Bellhousing, Crower Clutch, Lenco Transmission, Chrisman rear-end assembly, Racepak Computer and Taylor Restraint System. The team also utilizes Hoosier racing slicks.

Career Highlights: Dan Mercier - is a civil engineer and President and owner of Laboratoire ABS. His GP Hydroplane racing career began in 1993 and he was the Canadian and North American GP Hydroplane Champion for 1996. Dan's first asphalt drag racing experience came in 2002 when he attended Frank Hawley's Drag Racing School and participated at various events on the Quebec drag racing scene.

In 2003, his rookie season, Dan entered four NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional events in the U.S. Northeast as well as his very first NHRA National event in Pennsylvania, where he qualified 5th. The 2004 season will see Mercier compete at all NHRA Division One Lucas Oil Drag Racing series events as well as at three NHRA national events.

Mercier's team made a big change beginning in 2005 when they switched from a supercharged on alcohol to an injected nitro machine. That paid huge dividends beginning in 2006 when Mercier, rode to a number of firsts by a Canadian. Under the capable guidance of his crew chief Serge Blanchette and talented supporting cast, ripped through the NHRA Division One TAD circuit and in fact won three races consecutively to take the overall 2006 Northeast Division points championship -- becoming the first Canadian to achieve that. Mercier also made history during September’s rain-delayed Toyo Tires Nationals when he became only the fourth Canadian driver to win a NHRA National event title in the class – and was the first to do it with an injected nitro car.

His 2006 season accomplishments were acknowledged by the Canadian racing public. During DragRaceCanada's annual off season on-line balloting, Daniel was selected by fans as the top Professional Driver of the Year. In that voting he received the most votes in all of the categories and gathered a highly impressive 70.5% for Pro voting.

Major Sponsorship: is provided by A.D.F Diesel ( Atelier Diesel Fournier ) which is a major distributor of heady-duty diesel parts within the province of Quebec. Dan's own company Laboratoire A.B.S., a asphalt, concrete and soil contracting company, is one the team's associate sponsors along with NitroMoose.CA.
