Edmonton’s Brent Harris campaigns what is truly one of Western Canada’s most meticulous drag racing creations.
Harris’ 1933 Willys “Gasser” was originally raced first beginning in 1968 by the infamous Northwest team of “Ziegler and Bryson“. Brent first acquired the car in 1994 and has since then campaigned it through an evolutionary period that included various motor configurations and including carburetors and fuel injection.
The present day version of the Willys is an overwhelming fan favourite in both the USA and Canada at Nostalgia-themed events running as a AA/GS. Brent Harris is also highly active on the popular Western Canadian based 7.50 International Blown Alcohol Circuit.
Power comes from an alcohol-fuelled 433 CID Keith Black Oldsmobile which is equipped with Sonny Leonard cylinder heads and a Littlefield supercharger. The fuel system is by Les Davenport (Acceleration Enterprises) and the entire rotating assembly is a Childs and Albert. Brent assembles all of his own motors in conjunction with Larry Brown at Bel Engine Services. The car features a Lenco 3-speed transmission and a Coan converter. Mark Williams driveline components, Weld Wheels and Goodyear slicks are also employed.
The show stopping Willys, which features a double-rail chassis by Fitting, was given it’s ultimate finishing touch, an award winning paint scheme, by the skilled staff at Joey’s Place in Edmonton.
Driver and owner Brent Harris is the President of Premay Equipment, which is an important arm of parent company Mullen Transportation Group Inc. Premay Equipment specializes in heavy hauling mostly within the Western Canadian Petrochemical Industry.
Career racing memories are many for Brent Harris and in fact start at his first ever event attended back in 1994 at Calgary’s Race City. At that race he not only won eliminators on both Saturday and Sunday but was also awarded the event’s “Best Engineered”. Harris also raced at the historic “Goodguys” event held at “The Strip” at Las Vegas Speedway back in 2000, the very first feature event held at the then new facility.
Primary sponsorship for his team comes from Competition Chevrolet/Oldsmobile (Stony Plain), Bel Engines,(Edmonton), D.M.A. (Calgary) and Lyn Corp (Calgary). Valuable associates include JB’s Automotive (Edmonton), A.F.D. (Edmonton) My Shak Sales & Rentals (Edmonton), Childs & Albert, Littlefield Superchargers, Fitting Chassis, and Joey’s Place (Edmonton).
