One of the oldest and most established speed shops in all of Canada, Karbelt Pickering, is the home stable for one of Canada’s most impressive Nostalgia Super Stock cars. Store Manager, Kevin Dundas, has built and drives a 1964 Plymouth Belvedere which first hit the drag strip during the 2003 racing season.

After acquiring the car from North Carolina, the car was stripped down and the multi-year project began. A full 10-point roll cage was installed by Graham RaceCars while Eddy Bryck from the Chassis Shop (Ajax, ON) was tasked with building the car’s suspension and custom headers. Ontario Hemi-racing “guru” Tim Banning (For Hemis Only) built the powerful 484 CID motor at his facility in Bewdley, Ontario.

The motor combination features a Mopar “Megablock” equipped with Mopar aluminium cylinder heads and a twin cross-ram intake manifold. Important engine components include a Competition roller camshaft, Stage V rocker arm assembly, a Milodon oiling system and twin Holley 850 carburetors modified by Quick Fuel. The Belvedere uses a TCI converter and a 727 Transmission to transfer power to a Dana 60 rear end assembly outfitted with 4:30 gears. American Racing wheels Hoosier tires are also employed.

Finishing touches for the classic Belvedere include plating by the Plating House (Toronto) and ’98 Dodge White paint by Professional Collision.

The car’s first year in competition produced some impressive results. At the independent Mopar Nationals events held at Columbus and Norwalk Ohio, the car was the fastest qualifier (at Columbus) and the Norwalk event saw the car be the quickest in the field overall while advancing to the final round.

The car which will continue to see frequent action at regional Nostalgia Super Stock events will also be a participant in the popular Eastern Canadian Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series.
