President John
Waldie began racing a 6 cylinder dragster in 1965 with Kenny
Lee and Jim McCann and the Hishon brothers. From 1969 to
1971 they raced a Super Stock Camaro and then a Cobra Jet
Mustang with the late Don Henderson and George Weicker.
In 1987, he attended the Grand National in Montreal with
Jerry Eckman.
Later that summer
they won Pro Stock at the Summernationals in Englishtown,
N.J. This led to a 10 year association with Pennzoil and
Pontiac and resulted in 10 more national event victories.
Canadians Ken Lee, Dale Kuntz, and Bud Polhill were instrumental
in the success of this team.
In 1996, a lifetime
vision of a Canadian Stock/Superstock Series was initiated
with John Fletcher. Thanks to F. J. Smith and current organizers,
Doug Box and Barbara Noordhof, it is developing into one
of drag racing’s premier series supporting our great
local facilities in Ontario.
John is a governor
of the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and chairman of
the nominating committee.
