Performance Specialties, which was established in 1976,
is a dominating force within NHRA Sportsman drag racing.
The fully equipped facility has been the birth place for
a long line of NHRA and IHRA front wheel drive conversion
Super Stock champions. The list of clients who choose Smith
Performance quality and innovation include national and
divisional winners, best engineered, best appearing and
national record holders.
Smith Performance Specialties is the
source of choice for serious General Motors Super Stock
racers from basic chassis components to fully prepared turn
key machines. Full fabrication, engine dynamometer, cylinder
head flowing and complete machine shop services are available.
Primary production is for Oldsmobile and Pontiac Super Stock
cars and for Chevrolet and GMC Super Stock trucks however
Smith Performance Specialties is not limited to those brands
only.
Smith Performance Specialties has
done custom work for Mopar and NMCA applications. Private
dynamometer services for other brands of motor are available.
Owner, F.J. "Fred" Smith,
who is recognized as one of NHRA’s leading Sportsman
racers and industry consultants is a two-time recipient
of Car Craft Magazine’s prestigious "Sportsman
Chassis Builder" of the year award (1992-1993). Combining
25 years of racing experience with present day and ongoing
testing under actual race conditions, Smith Performance
Specialties assures it’s list of return customers which
includes names like Jeff Taylor, Jeg Coughlin, Wally Clark,
Abe Loewen, Jim Boburka and Joe Scott.
