E.R.D. Unveils Canadian First!

Ontario-based Pro Mod racer Carl Spiering and reputed Canadian engine builder Terry Vince are poised to revolutionize the high performance engine market in Canada.

Following a recent alignment, the duo is now able to provide some very serious value added services to the Canadian racing public, the likes of which have not been seen before. At the centre of the initiative, which was a melding of Vince’s Competition Speed engine building services with Spiering’s new Engine Research & Development Company, is a state-of-the-art dynometer, one of the most advanced on the market and the first of it’s kind to be introduced in Canada.

“Our D.T.S. (Dynamic Test System) has outstanding capacities,” said Carl Spiering. “It can handle motors from Junior Dragsters right up to a 3000 HP supercharged or nitrous-injected engines. The technology is exactly what most of the top level Pro Stock and Pro Mod teams have access to. It is very stable because it uses water flow in and out though a valve system. The benefits of that are that it can very accurately map and graph not only factors like engine RPM and torque – but also changes in acceleration. Other dyno manufacturers do not offer that capability.”

“The D.T.S. has many other unique features,” Carl continued. “The most important may be our ability to maintain atmospheric conditions. It is housed inside a climate controlled “dyno cell” where we can control things like temperature and even humidity. That allows you much more consistency when you are making a series of dyno pulls over a period of time. In this business it is very important to compare apples to apples.”

But what really makes Spiering’s new E.R.D. service very unique is that it is available to the public.

“We feel we can help a lot of people,” added Carl. “Our business is very user friendly in that you can bring in your motor and easily install it to the dyno and find out for sure what you really have. After that we offer a full range of expertise and services to make the improvements you want.”

E.R.D. and Competition Speed are in fact two separate but complimenting companies which are housed in a single facility located in Jordan Station, ON. Competition Speed offers it’s customers a full range of machining and high performance engine building services. E.R.D. is a newly founded division of The Trailer Shop.
