RLD INDUSTRIES NOSTALGIA DAYS COMING TO LUSKVILLE DRAGWAY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2006
I don't think anyone should ever forget where they came from, and when it comes to cars, and drag racing that is very very evident, as folks involved with our weekend sickness feel that way very much so about our sport. And so nostalgia drag racing has gotten bigger and bigger over the years, more so in some parts of the country than others, but never the less in almost all areas there is some. And after having a number of people show some interest and want for such an event we have decided that we would go ahead with one in 2006. One of those individual was Larry Denis of RLD Industries a current and long time advertiser of Luskville Dragway. Larry who is an avid performance car enthusiast just happens to own two of the nicest frame off restoration performance cars you every want to see, has continually done more than his share for the Motorsports community in this area. Dates are still being worked on like the rest of the schedule, though Aug 26 with the 27th being a rain date are looking good, we already have a number of other advertiser's showing an interest in the event which we will announce in the near future. The event will be centered around the performance cars of the 60's-70'sand 80's when drag racing really started to take hold in Canada and in particular here in Ottawa with construction of Luskville Dragway in 1969. I myself grew up, first watching my older brother driving a 1969 SD 396 Beaumont (Pontiac's version of the Chevelle) as well as his friends, who drove 428 Cobra Jet Torino's, and 426 Hemi powered Road Runner's. This is with out question where I got my love for fast cars, and drag racing, even though it was just a marked off piece of pavement in small town Denbigh, Ontario in the beginnings.
So yes I think its time we did something at the track to celebrate the good old days, the beginnings of drag racing when you would go to the track and that was pretty much what you would see, performance cars of the time, Mach I Mustangs, GTO's, SS Chevelle's, Hemi Powered Dodges, 440 Magnum's, and Z28 Camaro's. In 1969 you could by a 427 CAMARO right out of the show room, change the cam shaft and run in the 10's. The plans will to be to run three or four class's, one would be for foot brake all out Nostalgia Drag Cars (absolutely no electronics), a pure stock (no slicks) class, and one more street car class that would allow some modifications, such as slicks, open headers and such. There will also be a car show awards program incorporated into the day as well. So with that in mind lets shake up all of you folks that have these type of cars, and lets bring them back down to the drag strip one more time, for now anyway, and I cant think of no better way to celebrate 35 years of life for Luskville Dragway than with this type of day. So once again if you or your company would like to be part of this event as an advertiser, as the more advertisers the bigger this deal will be. We would like very much to turn this in to a large out door car show, and with the improvement that is scheduled for this spring scheduled to happen long before this event everyone should be very very happy. What we are hoping for is advertiser participation, even if it is a small as a class winner involvement. For More Info click on NOSTALGIA DAYS
