Beautiful Ugly Duckling!
Bruce Biegler - July 15, 2006

The reputation of Canada’s Cynergy Composites continues its amazing rise. The company which only five years ago began North American distribution of cutting edge Pro Modified bodies is seeing a serious business boom.

Based from just outside Strathroy in scenic Southwest Ontario, owner and founder Tim Hodgins began his business after striking an exclusive deal to build and market in North Amercia some incredible Chevy Camaro bodies originally conceived by Australia’s Murray Anderson. Since that time those bodies have been modified and improved so much they are at a point that Hodgins cannot keep up with the demand for orders. They are the body of choice for numerous high-profile teams and are utilized by pretty well every top rated race car chassis builder in the business (G-Force, Jerry Haas, Jerry Bickel, TM Race Cars, etc). To date Cynergy Composites has received no less than 43 orders for its ‘67 Camaro body and already delivered 30.

The IHRA is on the verge of announcing a new rule for its Pro Modified racing class which will be implemented in 2007. In an attempt to keep some space between its Pro Stock and Pro Mod category – Pro Modified class cars will soon have restrictions on late model body styles. This development plays perfectly into Hodgins’ business and the timing couldn’t be better for his latest creation – a ’68 Firebird Pro Mod body.

“We have been working long and hard on this new ’68 Firebird,” said Hodgins. “Like anything new it takes time – our plans are for it to compliment our Camaro. We have some orders already and our first car is in line at Jerry Bickel’s shop. We have a couple of Top Sportsman racer orders too.”

Tim’s Cynergy Composites company has also expanded it’s horizons with other innovative products. The ’67 Camaro body will shortly be sold in a roadster version because of high demand in the Super Gas/Super Rod 9.90 category. The company also manufactures and sells top of the line carbon fiber composite wing assemblies, wheel tubs and racecar interior panels.

All of this is pretty amazing for Hodgins who after racing himself only briefly credits his roots to being a crewmember for Al Billes. Overall it truly is an inspiring Canadian drag racing success story.

“In five years we have come a long way,” he reflected. “The reputation of the product seems to be selling itself and as a company we are very proud of that fact.”
