VP’S M5—Like Methanol On Steroids

VP’S M5—LIKE METHANOL ON STEROIDS

SAN ANTONIO, TX (September 4, 2007) – Racers who crave more power than straight methanol can deliver now have another option from VP Racing Fuels, Inc., the world leader in race fuel technology. VP's newest enhanced formula for methanol is called “M5,” and it makes more power than any methanol on the market primarily due to improved vaporization and faster burning speed, according to Steve Burns, VP’s President and Director-R&D.

“M5 even outperforms our recently introduced M3 Methanol,” Burns said. “M5 actually grew out of reports that M3 worked great in 60-70% of methanol applications but couldn’t improve the performance of other applications that typically run very rich. In those cases, M3’s improved vaporization reduces volumetric efficiency, such that the car will run faster MPH, but stumble at the launch. While these issues are manageable in most cases with jetting changes or adjustments to the injection systems, we felt it best to engineer a fuel that would require fewer tuning changes, specifically for those situations.”

“The result of this effort is M5, which at this point, is the best performing methanol on the market and will actually work effectively across all methanol applications, from drag racing to circle track to powerboats and more,” Burns continued. “With upgraded combustion additives and a lubrication additive to help seal the rings, M5 will make more power than M3—up to a 50 hp gain in a 1030 hp engine and 4-6% more than standard methanol—while offering the same or better protection against detonation. Like M3, M5 improves the thermal efficiency of the air/fuel mixture, offering a wider acceptable range of air/fuel ratio. This improved vaporization enhances the range of ignition and leads to more consistent performance from run to run. The bracket racers who have helped us in testing have experienced no problems with tuning, while seeing variations in their run to run ETs significantly reduced.”

“The improvement in throttle response is also substantial—we’ve seen a 5% increase in torque across a wider rpm range. M5 includes an anticorrosion package, so there’s no need to add anything else to address lubrication or corrosion issues.

“M5 also reduces aldehyde emissions—the exhaust components in standard methanol—although not quite as well as M3. That means that while M5 is the best choice for maximum power in unrestricted applications, M3 will still be the best option in many applications, notably enclosed stadiums.” M5 is not pure methanol and won’t pass a water test.

“One of the things racers count on with any of VP’s methanol products is consistency in production and packaging,” Burns added. “VP’s M1 Methanol set the standard for years with 99.8+% purity and lined drums. Customers never have to fear contamination. So much of the cheap methanol you see is reclaimed from industrial processes and contains who knows how many contaminants. VP doesn’t cut corners or ‘reclaim’ methanol like some competitors who yield to the pressure for lower prices. We won’t even go there. To our customers, that might mean slightly higher prices, but they can also trust our product. They won’t be chasing a ‘bad ignition’ for a month, only to find out their problem was bad fuel.”

Technical questions regarding application and tuning of M5 can be referred to VP’s Technical Department at 812-878-2025 or tech@vpracingfuels.com. M5 can be ordered via any of VP’s regional distribution centers, contact information for which is available on VP’s website at vpracingfuels.com.
