VP Racing Fuels Q16 Invades Canada!
Steve Scheidker - March 19, 2008

Q16 STIRS UP CANADIAN DRAG RACE MARKET;
VP DISTRIBUTORS STOCKING NEWEST BLEND

VP’s new Q16 is a racer’s dream fuel offering consistency and maximum power. Race proven in the U.S. and highlighted by a win at the NHRA U.S. Nationals, Q16 has moved North of the Border and is readily available through VP’s Canadian distribution network.

“Q16 is the most consistent fuel I’ve ever run – it covers up the fuel delivery problems that every motor has,” said Mike Ferderer, 3-time World Champion. And with the horsepower gain it offers, it’s truly the biggest bang you’ll ever get for the dollars spent on performance.”

Steve Petty, of Pro Line Racing, said, “We were already making 3100 Hp on VP’s C16, so when I saw a gain of 150 Hp with Q16, I was blown away! We also picked up .05 in our 1/8 mile ET.” Q16 already has a NHRA U.S. Nationals championship to its credit, as Andrew Thomas won the Super Gas title last September in Indianapolis, after not winning a race the whole season on his previous fuel.

Jim Kelly, VP’s Regional Manager for Eastern Canada, can summarize the reasons for Q16’s superior performance in two words: oxygenation and vaporization. “These two factors yield benefits in three key areas:

Power – Q16 has 10% oxygen content by weight, requiring a 4-6% increase in fuel flow, which contributes to making 4-6% more power than competitors’ 116 octane fuels. With its rapid vaporization rate, Q16 has superior burning speed and makes more pressure in the cylinders, both of which also make more power. Q16 still has relatively low vapor pressure, unusual in a fuel with an oxygen content and vaporization rate this high.

Octane – Q16 has a motor octane of 116, virtually the same as VP’s C16, but its resistance to detonation is even better—6 to 8 numbers higher than its standard ASTM rating—due to the increased fuel flow. Notably, Q16 also will contribute to lower engine operating temperatures due to more efficient combustion which yields lower exhaust gas temperatures. Q16 is recommended for engines with compression ratios up to 17:1.

Consistency – Due to its oxygenated compounds and better vaporization, Q16 offers a wider air-fuel ratio and improves fuel distribution cylinder to cylinder. As a result, Q16’s consistency from run to run is unsurpassed, a critical factor for bracket racers. In bracket cars that vary .02-.04 in ET during the day, Q16 has routinely demonstrated it will cut the variation in half, to .01-.02. The performance of a Q16-powered vehicle also won’t vary as dramatically with altitude or density changes.”

“Q16 provides cheap horsepower—30-50 Hp increases on a 1000-1400 Hp engine,” Kelly continued. “In a 1200 Hp dragster in the 1/8 mile, we changed 3 or 4 jets and saw gains of .02-.03 in ET and a 1-2 mph increase. Even if racers spend $4 per gallon more for Q16 and use ¾ gallon per pass, that’s just $3 more per pass to substantially improve their ET. In the grand scheme of things, that’s meaningless. There aren’t many performance parts that offer a .02-.03 improvement in 1/8 mile ET for $3.

“Q16 is the best gas you can use in drag racing if you’re not bound by any fuel rules,” Kelly asserted. “Our distributors in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and the Maritimes have it in stock and are chomping at the bit for the season to start.” Contact information for VP’s Canadian distributors is as follows:

VP-Maritime (Miramichi, NB): 506-624-7989; mirdrag@nb.sympatico.ca

“With more power, octane and consistency, Q16 will work well not only in drag racing, but circle track and off road, spanning the application range better than any fuel ever made—from naturally aspirated to nitrous to blowers,” Kelly concluded.

Technical questions on application and tuning of Q16 can be directed to the appropriate VP regional distribution center or VP’s Tech Support group at tech@vpracingfuels.com. Questions regarding purchase and delivery of Q16 should be directed to the appropriate VP regional distribution center.
